Should I use a VPN?
As a general rule, the use of Virtual Private Networks should be avoided when placing bets. Several bookies have terms that ban the use of VPNs, and if they detect you using one it can cause problems.
However, there are circumstances when using a VPN may be desirable.
Many bookies require you to be in Australia in order to place bets with them. If you are outside the country for work or travel, or you are living abroad, a VPN may be necessary to access the bookie at all.
In some instances (e.g. in-play betting) you might have the opposite situation and want to appear outside of Australia. Again, a VPN will help you out.
A couple of things to note:
- Bet365 are incredible at detecting VPNs and will not let you login if you are using one
- TabTouch are also great at detecting them but they will allow you 60 days per year of being out of the country (either physically or virtually) before it becomes a problem
- Other bookies may be able to detect shared IP addresses but not private ones. For this reason it is always worth paying a little extra for a VPN with a dedicated IP address. Our weapon of choice is a dedicated IP from NordVPN.
