How to approach SportChamps

SportChamps is a tournament style betting “bookie.”

Specifically we are looking at their Target Tournaments, where you can pay an entry fee and place bets using ChampCash (coins) and if you reach the required balance of coins they will pay you an amount of prize money.

We can view this as a gated odds boost promotion. Gated meaning this is only able to be done within a certain odds range for your back and lay. This is because, depending on the tournament target, you can bet your entire balance to reach the target in one bet when the odds are above X amount, and your lay odds need to be low enough to break even or better, anything outside this range will not be viable.

The odds boost is due to the conversion of cash stake to coins. If the buy in is $5 and the payout is $50 then that would be the equivalent of a horse paying $10 when betting your entire balance, but we can lay that horse at the normal odds, which will be lower than $10 for an arb.

For example, if we need to reach a target of 35,000 coins and the payout is X5, we can back a horse with our entire balance at $3.50 and lay at anything under $4.80 (commission allowing) and result in profit.

Previously SportChamps offered lower target amounts which resulted in the boost being more effective at generating locked in profit, often with enough profit on a loss to ensure a free re-buy and keep going. Currently their targets are set at or around break-even, however by backing and laying we can still generate a small profit.

Enter your tournament information in yellow, the back odds at SportChamps in blue and the Betfair lay odds in light red. This will then calculate the “gate” you will be required to remain within in order to turn a profit.

From the Betfair lay odds you will be given three lay stake calculations for breaking even (BE) on a loss, win, or alternatively an even result no matter the outcome. For the tournament to continue in case of a loss, you will need to ensure that your net on loss is higher than the buy in price to keep going.
