Here is a short script that you can use to explain the basic concept before the dismiss it completely:

Imagine a roulette table with no green zero. I bet $10 on red and $10 on black. This seems pointless because i'm always going to break-even. No chance of losing money, and a 1 in 8 chance that you triple your money.

This obviously isn't really what we do in matched betting, but it is a quick way to demonstrate how we can use mathematics to create risk-free profits when promotions are available. Hopefully this should open them up to the concept, and give you a chance to explain more about how to actually approach matched betting.
