What happens if a horse is scratched?

Sometimes horses are removed from a race after you have placed your bets. This can happen right up to the last second before the race starts.

If your horse is scratched your bets will be voided at both the bookie and betfair. There is nothing more you can do at this point.

Only your first bet on each race qualifies for the promo, so there is no point in backing another horse after yours is scratched.

If another horse in the race is scratched after you have placed your bet your odds may be reduced. The amount of the reduction depends on the odds of the other horse.

The removal of a horse at odds of 100 will have little or no impact on your odds. If a horse with odds of 2.00 is removed it will have a big impact.

The odds reduction will happen at both the bookie and betfair, so it shouldn’t have a huge effect on your overall profit/loss. The reduction amount can vary from bookie to bookie though, so you may gain or lose a few dollars.
