Bowler Accounts

A bowler account is a bookmaker account opened under the identity of a friend or relative. It is a practice used by some matched bettors to continue accessing welcome bonuses after their own accounts have been restricted.

At Bonusbank we do not encourage or provide advice on bowler accounts. The legal position has changed significantly in recent years and the risks are serious.

The Northern Territory Racing and Wagering Bill 2024 specifically makes it an offence to misrepresent your identity when placing a bet. Each offence carries a fine of up to 100 penalty units, currently $189 per unit for the 25/26 tax year. Bookmakers who suspect a bowler account can freeze funds and require the account holder to sign a statutory declaration. Knowingly making a false statement in a statutory declaration is a criminal offence carrying a penalty of up to four years in prison.

For those who choose to proceed regardless, there are a few things worth being aware of.

Bookmakers use sophisticated software to detect linked accounts. Known indicators include accounts registered at the same address, accounts logging in from the same IP address or device, and accounts funded from the same bank card or account. There are likely other detection methods that are not publicly known.

If you borrow someone's identity, make sure they fully understand what their details will be used for and what they could be asked to do if the account is investigated. Put a clear agreement in place before you start.

Discussion of bowler accounts is not permitted in our Discord server.
