Minimum runners for bonus back promos

With bonus back promos, EV is higher on races with fewer runners. This is because a smaller field gives your horse a better chance of placing and qualifying for the bonus.

Bookmakers are aware of this, which is why most will set a minimum number of runners for a race to be eligible for the promo. If the field drops below that number due to scratchings, the promo may not apply.

How to find the minimum runners for a bookie

The easiest way is to click the promo, open the terms and conditions, and search for the minimum runners clause. Some bookmakers make this straightforward. Others bury it in a long terms page, in which case using Ctrl+F (or Command+F on Mac) to search for "runners" or "minimum" will save time.

The Bookie Library also has information on minimum runner requirements for bookmakers where this is known. Check there first before digging through T&Cs manually.

Because bookmakers can update their terms at any time, always verify the current requirement directly with the bookie before placing a bet on a race with a small field.
